Greater Somerset County YMCA Launches Popular LES MILLS Program at the Y and Invites the Community to Experience the Benefits of Membership

PRESS RELEASE

[Basking Ridge, N.J., January 13, 2023] LES MILLS® launched at Hillsborough YMCA, Somerset Hills YMCA, and Somerville YMCA on January 1 at Greater Somerset County YMCA’s (GSCYMCA) New Year’s community event, which was open to members and non-members to try the weight training format. LES MILLS classes are popular worldwide and GSCYMCA offerings have been full since launch.

At the New Year’s celebration, GSCYMCA staff were on hand to provide demo LES MILLS BODYPUMP™ classes,  free fitness orientations, welcome Y camp families for open houses and early registration, demonstrate pediatric CPR and First Aid, and provide financial assistance information. The festivities also included Kids Corner babysitting, family swim, a scavenger hunt, paint and sip, giveaways, as well as a celebratory ball drop to ring in the New Year with the Y.

GSCYMCA’s first LES MILLS offering is BODYPUMP, the original LES MILLS total body workout. The group exercise class involves full-body sculpting, toning, and strengthening with the Y’s certified instructors that coach participants through moves and techniques scientifically proven to build lean-body muscle and burn up to 540 calories per session. Focus is placed on low weight loads and high repetition movements to burn fat, gain strength, and quickly produce lean-body muscle conditioning. BODYPUMP utilizes the SMARTBAR™ ergonomic weights and is set to motivational, up-tempo music. Classes are designed for all fitness levels and are included FREE with Y membership.

GSCYMCA invites anyone from the community to try LES MILLS BODYPUMP, experience the Y, and learn about the benefits of membership. Visit gscymca.org for information on a 7-day-trial pass to see why the Y is for all, embracing all backgrounds and fitness levels. At Greater Somerset County YMCA, members enjoy full facility and program access at all branches, as well as access to YMCA360.org, the Y’s 24/7 on-demand video platform that offers 1500+ on-demand exercise classes and programs. New content is added regularly and livestream classes are also available. It matches Y members’ on-the-go lifestyles and makes healthy living for people of all ages and activity levels possible anytime, anywhere.

“We are excited to offer the LES MILLS format at the Y in 2023 as part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening community and providing safe, welcoming, and engaging spaces for everyone to thrive. Look for additional LES MILLS offerings and other innovative programming in the new year,” said David M. Carcieri, President and CEO, GSCYMCA.

“The members are so excited to have LES MILLS at the Y – they can tailor their experience according to their ability by the amount of weight on the barbells. The instructors focus on body alignment and form and people really like that it helps them get stronger and exercise safely. It’s our first class focusing solely on strength building – it’s usually a combination. Participants are having fun and getting stronger in a group atmosphere. LES MILLS does it right and classes have been packed, even at 6 a.m. We have seen such an increase in attendance that has overflowed into all our morning offerings. Men and women alike are enjoying BODYPUMP and talking about their progress. It’s really exciting to see the community of members and instructors working together to make the program a success. And we’ll have two more LES MILLS formats coming by spring – BODYCOMBAT™ and LES MILLE CORE™,” said Lisa Pensabene, Group Exercise Coordinator of Somerset Hills YMCA, a GSCYMCA branch.
