OUR TRAINING OPTIONS

We offer training packages for individuals 10 years and older, in a personal, pairs, or small group setting. Choose from 30, 45, or 60-minute sessions. If you’re new to personal training, you can try our introductory Tri-Pack package to get you started on your path to better health. Whatever fitness package you choose, our dedicated trainers are here ready to challenge your limits and cheer you on as you reach your goals.

MEET KEVIN

Create the vision and trust the process.

Kevin’s philosophy stems from his background as a biology major, weight trainer and experience working in the mental health field. His calm demeanor, thoughtful approach, and sense of urgency gives him the ability to understand your needs and ensure you’re able to reach your goals.

Kevin’s specialties include functional strength training, weight loss, muscle building, and exercise for mental health.

“Create the vision and trust the process,” he says.


MEET PAM

Healthy mind, healthy body.

Pam has been with the YMCA since 2006. She is a NETA certified personal trainer who enjoys working with a variety of clients. Her approach to fitness is whole body, encouraging a mind-body connection. Pam’s focus is on strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, cardio and endurance.

Pam holds a Pilates specialty certification. She is a trainer for the LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program and also leads Enhance®Fitness classes for senior citizens in our community.

“I believe that a healthy mind creates a healthy body,” Pam says.


MEET CHRISTINE

Life, balance, posture: stand strong.

Christine is a certified personal trainer through NETA and has been working at the Y since 2005. She started at the Y as a dance and yoga instructor, finding her own balance between life, family, work, fitness and self care.

Christine brings that balance of life to her classes and training. She enjoys working with members and clients who are at the Y for a healthy lifestyle and community. In her training she looks at the whole person and whole body, helping members to restore their strength and well being as well as strengthening for the future. She uses added knowledge from her certifications in yoga, Pilates,  barre, pre-hab versus rehab, and more. She works with clients in the pool for certain levels of rehabilitation and strength.

Christine brings her balance, posture and strength to all she does.

“It’s about life, balance, posture and standing strong,” she says.


MEET ELLIE

Fit fitness into your everyday life.

Ellie grew up playing sports and being active with her family. She discovered her love for teaching fitness 18 years ago when she became a certified group exercise instructor at the Y. Over the years, Ellie has taught a range of classes including strength training and Pilates. As a personal trainer, Ellie draws from a variety of exercise philosophies, such as core stability, interval training, muscle strengthening, cardio fitness and flexibility.

Ellie is certified through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Exercise Training Association (NETA).

Ellie enjoys working with clients of all ages and fitness levels to help them reach their fitness goals. Through positive encouragement and effective programming, Ellie is committed to motivating clients to progress and integrate “fitness into their everyday lives.”


MEET JANET

Move for health.

Janet is a certified Pilates, aerobics and personal trainer. Her passion for fitness began over 25 years ago. She has been a Y staff member for over 15 years.

Janet encourages the next level of growth both through a healthy lifestyle, which includes organic foods and a deeper commitment to daily exercise. The “core” of her training philosophy approach is through body awareness, posture and muscular balance. This is where health, energy and functionality unite.

“We need to move often for better health,” she says.


MEET MIRIAM

Work hard, have fun, see results.

Miriam was introduced to exercise, especially running, later in life. She knows what it is like to be a beginner, to train hard, and to reach goals, with hers being 5K races, triathlons and both half and full marathons that include the New York City Marathon). Miriam’s focus is to get her clients stronger, leaner and to their fitness goals. She will always have a new workout up her sleeve to keep you having fun and seeing results.

Miriam is an ACE-certified trainer and group exercise instructor, YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program  lifestyle coach, LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA instructor and USA Track and Field coach.

“Working hard and having fun gives you results,” she says.


MEET ALI

Strength is confidence.

Ali is a NETA-certified personal trainer and AFAA group exercise instructor. She specializes in resistance training, high-intensity interval training, kettlebells and is also a USA Track and Field Level 1 certified coach.

Ali grew up participating in sports year-round and has been a runner for most of her life. As a result, she is particularly passionate about running and enjoys coaching runners of all ages in the Y’s Youth and Adult Running Clubs each spring and fall.

Her favorite part of personal training is the ability to program for an individual’s specific needs. Her experience lies in functional training for youth and adult athletes, but she also enjoys working with clients seeking to move more and reduce overall body fat.

“Strength is confidence,” she says.

MEET ROBERT

Never look back! You have got this!

Robert Gilman started his fitness career when he was just 13 years old as he tried to improve at football. Since then, he has not looked back once in pursuit of a career in fitness. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Rowan University in Health and Exercise Science and is a certified USAW coach (Olympic weight lifting). He is currently working toward becoming a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and is an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Rowan University where he helped athletes across many disciplines to establish and maintain strength and conditioning.

Says Robert, “My goals are to improve athletic or physical performance, reduce injuries, and teach lifelong lessons about fitness and movement for each individual.”


MEET BETH

Exercise benefits your mind, body, and soul

Beth Weinblatt is an AFFA-certified personal trainer. She is certified in Group Exercise, Spin, Spin Power, Kettleballs, and Livestrong. Her goal as a trainer is to motivate, inspire and educate others about the benefits of exercising and living a healthy lifestyle.

Health and fitness are more than your appearance, according to Beth, who works to help her clients achieve realistic goals, gain confidence and improve self-esteem. She specializes in High-Intensity Interval Training, Boot Camp-style workouts, Spin, Core Classes, Strength and Conditioning, and TRX.

Says Beth, “I am very passionate about fitness and enjoy watching people grow and get stronger and healthier. My philosophy is that exercise benefits your mind, body, and soul.”


MEET DIANA

Feel good about yourself

Diana Mentone has been a Personal and LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA Trainer since 2017. She holds a B.S. in education from Montclair State University and an Exercise Certification for Group Fitness.

As an avid swimmer, runner, and cyclist she enjoys competing in Triathlons and has completed multiple half-marathons. As a member of the Masters Swimming Program, she is motivated by encouraging members to “TRY-A-Tri” and coaching all to achieve their fitness goals.

An instructor at the YMCA since 2003, happily married and a mother of two daughters, Diana is a focused, energetic motivator with a great passion for health and fitness.

Diana’s motto is, “feel good about yourself.” She believes in training smart and consistently achieving your goals.

Says Diana, “I chose to train at the Y because there is a wide range of offerings here, from group fitness to personal training.”


MEET SUE

Movement improves quality of life

Sue Diebold is an AFAA-certified personal trainer and group exercise instructor. She is also certified in Total Parkinson’s, Total Brain & Body, LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, and BARRE.

With over 25 years of experience, Sue has worked in corporate fitness as well as the YMCA.  She is passionate about improving the quality of life for participants through a balanced wellness program.  She views wellness as a lifelong journey and focuses on safe and effective workouts.  Sue is especially interested in working with people experiencing chronic diseases (cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, etc.).

Says Sue, “I choose to train at the Y because we are mission-driven. We are able to impact people on their wellness journey in a way that other places can’t. That sustains and motivates me every day.”


MEET Nimika

There is only one YOU, take care of YOU!

Nimika is a dedicated personal trainer and mother of two teenagers, with a lively puppy completing her family. Holding a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry from Montclair State University, Nimika combines her scientific background with her passion for helping others maintain optimal health.

With 20 years of experience in the health and wellness industry, she is a certified ISSA Personal Trainer and an ACE Health Coach, drawing from her own transformative journey to inspire and guide members on their fitness and weight loss endeavors.

Nimika specializes in core strength and stability, pre and post-rehabilitation therapy, weight loss management, and offers her expertise as a certified pre and post-natal trainer.

Says Nimika “We all have these hidden powers; they’re unleashed when you least expect it! There’s only one YOU, take care of YOU.”


MEET Malcolm

A strong and nimble body can do more and enjoy more in life!

Malcolm’s personal training journey was ignited by his children. It all started when his 12-year-old son expressed his desire to become stronger and faster in Taekwondo. This sparked an interest in performance athletics for Malcolm, who was determined to support and guide his son, as well as his daughter, in their Taekwondo endeavors. Consequently, he found himself training other young athletes as well.

Malcolm embarked on his own training in Krav Maga, an Israeli method of self-defense. Today, he proudly holds the distinction of being a certified black belt and an accomplished Krav Maga trainer.

What initially began as a father’s drive to be supportive and beneficial to his children soon blossomed into a dedicated focus on agility and strength training. Malcolm firmly believes that age and ability should never be barriers to becoming stronger and more agile through appropriate exercise.

Says Malcolm “No matter the age or ability, anyone can become stronger and agile, with the right exercise. A strong and nimble body can do more and enjoy more in life. And it’s my goal to help you achieve that.”


MEET Amanda

Remember why you started!

Amanda is a NASM-certified personal trainer and is currently studying exercise science.

Fitness has been an integral component of her life having dedicated 16 years to dance. Transitioning from dance, she cultivated a deep passion for fitness, initially pursuing it within the confines of her home and gradually expanding her explorations within the gym environment.

What resonates most with Amanda about fitness is its transformative impact, not only on her physical prowess but also on her mental resilience.

Amanda’s foremost objective is to foster a sense of empowerment through education. Recognizing that entering the world of fitness can be a significant adjustment, she is unwavering in her commitment to providing unwavering support to her clients at every juncture of their journey.

Says Amanda “Whenever you question yourself, always remember why you started.”


MEET Thomas

How can the sky be the limit?

Thomas is an ISSA-certified personal trainer and is currently studying exercise science with a clinical focus at Montclair State University.

My main passion regarding health and fitness is distance running. I’ve been running half marathons for seven years and just recently finished my first spartan race.

Although most of my training is endurance-oriented, I’m also interested in the science-based aspects of training for hypertrophy and strength.

MEET ANALICE

Discover you! The sky is the limit!

Analice Aquino is a highly credentialed personal trainer who achieved her Personal Training Master’s certificate after an intensive 600-hour course sponsored by the Focus Personal Training Institute. She is also certified as a coach by the United States Track and Field. Analice began her fitness journey after being diagnosed with pre-diabetes and obesity ten years ago. Her formal training along with personal experience as a CrossFit and running enthusiast, has led her to develop specialized training programs for all of her clients, which helps them attain their personal health and fitness goals.

Says Analice, “I will teach you how to maximize your physical potential through commitment and discipline in a warm and fun training atmosphere.”


MEET Marcelo

Make them both strong!

Marcelo is a personal trainer certified through NETA and has been with the Y since 2022. Apart from personal training, he is also a floor supervisor in the Wellness Center and a basketball coach for youth players.

He enjoys seeing the growth and progress that is experienced throughout the fitness journey. With an AS degree in Exercise Science, Marcelo can provide various training styles that can help his clients reach their goals. He enjoys promoting a healthy lifestyle that goes beyond the weight room. Along with physical strength, he also promotes having a strong mentality.

Says Marcelo “Physical health and mental health are linked. You cannot treat them like they are completely separate. Whatever happens to one affects the other. Make them both strong.”


Meet Michael

Give your best!

Michael is a Personal Trainer at the Somerville YMCA with a certification in NSCA Strength Conditioning.

Michael studied Sport and Exercise Physiology at DeSales University where he competed on the cross country and track and field team. Michael took his talents and skills to the University of Pittsburgh and assisted the cross country and track and field team as a sports scientist while completing his Masters in Sports Science and Strength and Conditioning Coach Certification.

Michael’s personal best include 26:59 in the 8k, 16:24 in the 5k, and 4:40 in the mile. Michael is excited to lead the Couch to 5k program at Somerville and help runners achieve their goals.

Says Michael “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.”


Meet Mark

Fitness training for the mind, body, and spirit!

Mark is a Personal Trainer at the Somerville YMCA with a certification in ACE (American Council on Exercise) Certified Trainer and a 3rd Degree Karate Black Belt.

With over 25 years of experience, Mark has expertise in various fitness disciplines. Having guided more than 150 clients, Mark’s extensive background encompasses training youth, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. His coaching experience spans both group settings and one-on-one personalized training.

Mark specializes in a wide array of fitness domains, including: Cardio Fitness Training, Weight Training (both machine and free weights), Core Strength Training, Self-Defense Training, Martial Arts Fitness Training, Balance Training, Private Yoga instruction, Nutritional Counseling, Mental preparation for reaching and achieving fitness goals (attitude), Mind/body cohesion, breath practices, and meditation.

Meet Mursala

Start Today!

Mursala is a certified personal trainer through NASM and has been working at the YMCA since 2019. With experience in various roles at the YMCA, including front desk membership and swim instruction, she brings a well-rounded perspective to her personal training practice.

Additionally, Mursala has gained valuable insights into injuries and injury prevention through her work experience in a physical therapy clinic for 2 years.

Holding a degree in Exercise Science from Rutgers University and nearing completion of her MBA, she combines her knowledge of the human body and business acumen to provide comprehensive and effective training programs.
Specializing in strength training, Mursala leverages her expertise to help clients achieve their fitness goals in a safe and efficient manner.

She is passionate about educating clients on proper form and technique to prevent further injuries and optimize their training results. Beyond her dedication to fitness, Mursala finds joy in pursuing hobbies such as photography and singing, embracing a balanced and holistic approach to wellness.
